Spurs keen to avoid embarassment as they travel to St. James' Park

Newcastle United

The last time Newcastle United met Tottenham, the Magpies inflicted a 5-1 thrashing on Mauricio Pochettino's team. Overall, Rafa Benitze has a good record against Spurs. In fact, Benitez has not lost any of his previous eight Premier League home games as a manager against Spurs (W5 D3 L0), and he will be hoping to maintain that record as he takes on the London side on Sunday.

In terms of personnel, Benitez has some minor concens for players such as Florian Lejeune, Javier Manquillo, Mikel Merino, Christian Atsu and Jacob Murphy, but key striker Dwight Gayle is reportedly fit after hamstring injury.

Tottenham

Meanwhile, Tottenham, who finished in second last season, come into this game having beaten Juventus in their last pre-season friendly. However, Spurs had a mixed pre-season, winning just one of their ICC games against PSG whilst losing to Roma and Manchester City. They will be missing Erik Lamela (hips), Georges-Kevin Nkoudou (foot), Rose (knee) and Kieran Trippier (ankle) for this fixture, and sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City for a whopping £50,000,000.
