A goalfest on the cards in season opener?

Les Parisiens come into this game having lost their most recent game. That was a 3-2 friendly defeat to Juventus, and Unai Emery's men had mixed results during their tour of the USA during the 2017 ICC tournament. They defeated Roma, but that was via penalties, and shipped a whopping seven goals during losses to Tottenham (4-2) and the aforementioned result against La Vecchia Signora. And last season was nothing short of a disappointing one for Unai Emery. Despite thoroughly beating Monaco to win the Coupe de la Ligue and Coupe de France, PSG had to relinquish their grip on the Ligue 1 title and were embarassed in the Champions League by Barcelona.

To that end, Les Parisiens, who are certainly not lacking in cash or ambition, are hoping to flex their financial muscles this summer. Their primary target is none other than Barcelona star Neymar, who could cost upwards of 200 million euros should any kind of a deal go through, and with a month left before the transfer window slams shut, anything truly could happen.

Meanwhile, as PSG could be involved in a world-record deal, so could Monaco. However, whilst Les Parisiens could be the buyers, Les Rouges-et-Blancs could be the sellers. Monaco have made quite a bit well over €150M this summer thanks to selling several of their stars like Bernardo Silva, Tiemoue Bakayoko, and Benjamin Mendy, and they could more than double that should they part ways with rising starlet Kylian Mbappe. Real Madrid and Manchester City are two of the teams who have been linked as making serious bids for the 18-year-old, but for now, he's still a Monaco player and is expected to feature in Saturday's clash.

Leonardo Jardim's men shocked French football by knocking PSG off their title perch, and they did so in impressive fashion, scoring a whopping 107 goals en route to winning their first domestic title in over a decade. However, they come into this game having suffered a surprise 2-1 loss to Portuguese outfit Sporting CP in a pre-game warm-up, and as noted before, have sold off quite a few notable faces who contributed to their title winning squad. It remains to be seen what impact that will have on the side, as well as what Mbappe's frame of mind will be as he certainly will be distracted with the ongoing transfer speculation about his future with the club ahead of Saturday's game.
