The Gold Cup dream is over for French Guiana, as the team failed to comply with rules involving their squad selection despite warnings by the tournament's board.
Former Les Bleus midfielder Florent Malouda wanted to represent the place he was born, and pushed to be included in the 23-man roster French Guiana presented to CONCACAF's authorities. Last Friday, CONCACAF informed the Yana Dokos they wouldn't be able to use the footballer, as he had previously played with France.
Disregarding all warnings, French Guiana's coach fielded Malouda on Tuesday, forcing CONCACAF's disciplinary committee to take action. Today, the team was slapped with a fine, saw Malouda getting a two-match ban, and finally, their draw against Honduras will become a win for Los Catrachos, who are now the frontrunners to win Group A of the competition.
Here's the full statement released by CONCACAF on the matter.
