The 2016-2017 season in La Liga concluded with its fair share of controversy and new milestones being set. For how long will these numbers last?

The final courtain has dropped in the 2016-2017 La Liga, and it's time to look back at those records that will try to stand the test of time.

Surprisingly enough, and even with their extended dominance for the past years, neither Real Madrid nor Barcelona stole the show, which demonstrates that La Liga is one of the most competitive tournaments out there, despite being labelled as a "two-team league".

Cristiano Ronaldo confirms himself as La Liga's hat-trick king

The Portuguese player was the only player in the league to end the season with two hat-tricks. His performances against Alavés and Atlético saw his tally reach 32 La Liga hat-tricks, increasing his lead over Lionel Messi by six.

CR7's goal scoring tally took a hit this season, especially because Zinedine Zidane's rotation policy touched the Portuguese ace despite his desire to play all games.

Atlético's goalie, the best shot-stopper in La Liga

Jan Oblak confirmed himself as the best goalie in the Spanish top flight, as he picked up the Zamora trophy for a second straight year. Atlético Madrid's guardian defeated top-caliber goalies to this price, such as Marc-André Ter Stegen and former Real Madrid keeper Diego López.

Real Madrid's ongoing scoring streak

Zinedine Zidane's success as coach has much to do with the quality of his players, and scoring goals is something every team needs. During their run for the title, Los Blancos never ceased to score, marking a historical feat for the institution as they went on to win their 33rd title.

One player gathered more Player of the Month awards than Messi..and it wasn't CR7

The never-ending feud between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo saw "La Pulga" reaching 37 goals and a new Pichichi title, but there's a department in which neither one was able to dominate. Antoine Griezmann was the only player to earn Player of the Month honors twice, surpassing Messi's only win back in April. And CR7? He got snubbed!

The French ace could leave Los Colchoneros this summer, following the interest from Manchester United.

Diego Alves, "Superman" between the sticks

Valencia may have set a new record for most penalties against them in a singe season with 12, but Diego Alves was able to deny half of them. The Brazilian shot-stopper saved six of those shots, including one against Cristiano Ronaldo.

CR7 has only found the back of the net once in four matches against the Brazilian goalkeeper.
