Football fans are still soaking in the decision by Leicester City to sack Claudio Ranieri, the man who led the Foxes to the most remarkable Premier League win since the competition’s inception.
Only 9 months after the unforgettable triumph, the Tinkerman was axed due to their struggles in the league – they are currently a point off the relegation zone. It soon emerged that the decision to relieve the Italian of his duties came after the players met with the board in Spain to admit losing faith in their manager.
Ranieri’s assistant, Craig Shakespeare, will lead the team when they host Liverpool in the league. The search for a new boss has begun, nonetheless, and Leicester have identified another Premier League winner to succeed the Tinkerman.
According to Sky Sports, Leicester’s candidate for the hot seat is Robert Mancini. The manager, also Italian, has experience in the English top-flight, having won the league crown with Man City in the final minutes of the last game of the season in 2012.
The 52-year-old is a free agent, but it is yet to be seen whether he will return to England. Mancini has been out of work since leaving Inter Milan last summer.
Leicester have made contact with the former Citizens boss, but no negotiations took place. Sky Sports also claim that contact has been made with “other possibilities”.
