Match stats & facts

  • Manchester City have kept just four clean sheets in their 19 Premier League games under Pep Guardiola
  • Pep Guardiola has now suffered twice as many league defeats this season (4) as he did in the entire 2015/16 Bundesliga campaign with Bayern Munich (2)
  • Man City have lost only once in their last 12 Premier League contests at the Etihad Stadium (W7 D4) and have found the net in 16 of their last 17 matches on home soil
  • Burnley's last win away at Man City in league competition was in March 1963 (5-2), drawing six and losing six since then
  • The Clarets have failed to score in 11 of their last 17 Premier League away games, netting just six goals in the process
  • Burnley have a lousy away record - they have picked up just one point from a possible 24 on the road this season (W0 D1 L7)

Are Manchester City already out of the title race?

So far, Manchester City have lost four games. Normally, that is not the worst that could happen, but that's four games out of 19 so far. No other team in the top five have lost more than three. Chelsea have lost two, as have Liverpool and Tottenham. Arsenal have lost three, and Manchester United, who have been in a good vein of form lately, have also lost on three occasions.

The Sky Blues currently find themselves a whopping ten points behind Chelsea heading into this game. It goes without saying that Pep Guardiola has found the Premier League much tougher than the Bundesliga, but that's no surprise as the English top flight has never been a one-horse affair. Still, there are plenty of games between now and May, but obviously they will need to turn things around - and quickly - if they want to have any remote possibility of securing a top four finish, let alone even challenge for the title.

Luckily for the hosts, Burnley have an awful away record so far this term. The Clarets have not just failed to score in the overwhelming majority of their road fixtures (11 out of 17) but also have only picked up a measly one point out of a potential 24 away from their home ground so far. This is something that Guardiola's side can take advantage of after failing to get anything out of their last match, which saw them fail to make the grade in a frustrating (and at times, drab) affair that saw them lose 1-0 to Liverpool in their last game of 2016.
