Anthony Martial could be headed to Spain in January if Man Utd approve the transfer request.

Manchester United star forward Anthony Martial is wanted by a top La Liga side. According to his agent, Philippe Lamboley, the 21-year-old could make a temporary switch to the Spanish league in search of regular playtime.

Martial's position at Man Utd has been taken by the new fan-favorite Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who also took his famous shirt number 9 last summer upon arriving at Old Trafford from PSG. The lethal forward has already scored 17 goals for his new club across all competitions this season, a statistic that further endangers Martial's role.

His form has since been on the decline lately, having scored only one league goal for the red devils in 11 appearances. The Frenchman is now linked with a move to Sevilla where fellow countryman Samir Nasri plies his trade on a loan deal from neighbours Man City. Goal quotes the player's agent as saying;

"We are studying the Sevilla option in detail.

"Sevilla are a very good club, are in a good position in La Liga, play in the Champions League and have a great coach. That's all I can tell you."

Earlier this month, Martial publicly lamented his lack of playtime this season under new manager Jose Mourinho. He said:

"This is a test I have to get through.

"That's the way things go when you are still developing as a player and it forms your mentality.''

It is also understood that Man Utd are not willing to let the player go, and will persuade him to stay and fight for his place. Sevilla currently sit third on the La Liga table with 33 points, four off league leaders Real Madrid. Jorge Sampaoli's men are also in contention for the Champions League title this season having won the Europa League last season. They face Premier League defending champions Leicester City on February 22 for the first-leg of their UCL last 16 tie.
