Match facts and other historical stats

  • France have lost just once in 2016 - during the Euro 2016 final to Portugal in July
  • Les Bleus are currently on a three match winning streak and a five match unbeaten run
  • Meanwhile, the Ivory Coast have yet to lose a game in 2016
  • Les Éléphants last lost in January 2015, when they were defeated 2-0 by Sweden
  • This will be the second meeting between France and the Ivory Coast
  • The first resulted in a 3-0 victory for Tuesday's hosts

France have a solid record, but the Ivory Coast are also quite impressive

France

The hosts will be coming into this game having earned a hard-fought 2-1 win over Sweden. Goals from Paul Pogba and Dimitri Payet were enough to give Didier Deschamps's men a third straight World Cup qualifying victory. Following their disappointing and heartbreaking defeat to a highly unfavored Portugal in this summer's Euro final, there were concerns about how Les Bleus would be able to pick themselves up after being so close to getting their hands on the coveted prize.

Still, France appear to have put their failure behind them, and in fact, have not lost a match since. In fact, since the July loss, they have won four and drawn one out of their past five fixtures. This includes a resounding 3-1 win over Italy in a friendly, cruising to a 4-1 result against minnows Bulgaria, and overpowering the Netherlands 1-0 thanks to a brilliant long-range effort from Pogba.

However, the win over Sweden came at a price, as Antoine Griezmann has been ruled out of this fixture due to an injury. In addition to the Atletico Madrid star, Deschamps will also be missing Samuel Umtiti, Alphonse Areola, Layvin Kurzawa, and Kingsley Coman.

Ivory Coast

Meanwhile, Côte d'Ivoire, who have been led by Michel Dussuyer since 2015, have been in a rich vein of form. They haven't lost a match since going down 2-0 to Sweden in a friendly, and that was back on January 15, 2015. Along the way, they edged out Ghana on spot-kicks to clinch their second AFCON title and come into this game having drawn 0-0 with Morocco in a World Cup qualifier. Since the start of 2016, the visitors - who are a very changed side since departures of stars like Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure - have drawn four and drawn the other three of their last seven games across all competitions.

It's indeed an impressive run, and Michel Dussuyer's men will be looking to achieve two things: to score a first-ever goal against France and and hopefully ensure their unbeaten run since January 2015 remains intact.
