Match facts

  • These two teams have played each other six time since their international friendly in 1996 when the Turks won 3-2.
  • There have been only one draw in the last six meetings between the two sides
  • Ukraine have won only one of the last six meetings against Turkey

Match forecast

Both sides are in dire need of a win here having registered draws in their previous clashes in the qualifiers. But that is not the only similarity between these two teams – they both played their opening qualifiers behind closed doors due to FIFA sanctions. As a result, Turkey have a slight advantage by virtue of being the home team on Thursday. The Crescent Stars will be banking on their loyal fans at home to cheer them to victory, while the Yellow-Blues are hoping to sit back, absorb the pressure and take the game to the opponent’s box at the Torku Arena.

The last time the two sides faced each other was back in 2012 in an international friendly when Turkey won 2-0 at home. Prior to that meeting, Turkey had also won both two trips to Ukraine without conceding. Given the hosts’ dominance in this fixture, they will most likely get a win here despite the absence of the likes of Arda Turan and Burak Yilmaz.
