Asamoah Gyan’s expected move to Reading is off.

Yesterday, we reported that the Ghana captain had flown to England for a medical with the Championship side. But the deal has failed to materialize because of a strange reason.

The Daily Mirror reports that the Shanghai SIPG forward turned down the move to the Royals because the club had allegedly suggested that he should not feature for Ghana in January’s African Cup of Nations fixtures. But the former Sunderland striker did not seem impressed by the decision and took to twitter to express his frustration, albeit indirectly. He tweeted:

''Am proud of my country. No one can stop me from serving my county…Ghana made me who I am today.’’

The BBC also reported that a representative of Reading had confirmed to them that the deal was off, but refused to open up about the reports of the failed medical. The 31st edition of the African football tournament will be held in Gabon on 14th January to 7th February 2017. The Black Stars have already qualified for the tournament having emerged as the winners of Group H.
