Team news

AC Milan

Simply put, Vincenzo Montella will have a lot of things on his plate to address this season. For the third straight year, Milan will not be featuring in Europe, and the Rossoneri are clearly still a work in progress. So far, they managed to edge out Bayern on penalties after a 3-3 draw, but were easily swept aside 2-0 by Liverpool. However, the Reds have had a lot more preparation this summer than the Diavolo, but nonetheless, Milan will be hoping to rebound as they look ahead to trying to improve their fortunes during the 2016/2017 Serie A season.

The Rossoneri have been very quiet on the transfer market, but have seen a few faces depart. The most recent is French striker Jeremy Menez, who recently signed for Bordeaux after leaving on a free transfer. There is also speculation about the future of Carlos Bacca at the Stadio San Siro. Despite being the team's top goalscorer in his debut season, with 18 in the league and 20 across all competitions, the Colombian international was left off the team's roster for their USA tour. Subsequently, there have been a host of sides linked with his signature, and it will be interesting to see if the former Sevilla man is still with Milan by the time the Serie A season starts in a few weeks.

Chelsea

Like Milan, Chelsea will not be featuring in Europe. And like the Rossoneri, the Blues, now under the guidance of ex-Juventus boss Antonio Conte, will be keen on getting back to winning ways after a dismal showing last season that saw them finish in tenth place. The London giants, however, unlike their opponents, have actually made some notable acquisitions this summer, with N'Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi swapping Leicester City and Marseille for Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have also seen a few faces depart, with Baba Rahman leaving on loan for Schalke, Radamel Falcao returning to Monaco, and Pato heading back to Brazil. And if reports are to be believed, Diego Costa may be on his way out the door as well. The Brazilian-born Spanish international has long been a target for his former club Atletico Madrid, and so far, he has yet to feature for his current employers due to an apparent back injury.

The Blues will be coming into this game having lost 3-2 to Real Madrid, but there were some encouraging signs from their performance. For starters, Conte opted to try out a new formation and deploy Eden Hazard - who had a disappointing season last campaign - in a more advanced attacking role. And it paid off, to some extent: Hazard grabbed two late goals as Chelsea attempted to stage a late fight-back after going 3-0 down at halftime.

Following this, Chelsea will next take on Bundesliga side Wolfsburg before commencing the 2016/2017 Premier League season with a London derby clash against West Ham on August 15th.
