El Clasico finds River and Boca in poor form. River tries a new manager as Borghi chances his arm as Boca coach.
"I have no idea whether I'll be sitting on the bench for the Clasico" said Boca manager Claudio Borghi earlier on the week, but he finally assumed the challenge when River president Daniel Passarella gave Miguel Angel Cappa the sack as Millonario manager.

River is drifting in the middle of the positions table after a promising debut in the tournament. J J Lopez is likely to be the manager for the Superclasico. He didn't want to reveal much about his strategies. Sidelined by River former coach Cappa, River legendary striker Ariel Ortega might return to the starting eleven.

An unexpected defeat All Boys last week in Floresta killed the spirit of the players who'll have to work hard during the week to improve their playing for the derby.

Things are working out even worse for Boca Juniors, though the Xeneizes are not as much compromised with the relegation fight as the Millonarios. Boca invested heavily during the winter to sign promising players and it has not yet paid off very well.

Rumors about goalkeeper Cristian Luchetti making room for Javier Garcia between the posts have been sounding louder and louder in the course of the last days. Former Banfield captain has only been able to keep his goal shut in two games and the security of his gloves has now been questioned by the manager.

Juan Roman Riquelme's return against his former team Argentinos last week was up to the expectations of the manager. He was the main builder of the attack and his partnership with Martin Palermo and Lucas Viatri might be deadly for River at the Monumental.

El Clasico is always a special match for both River and Boca, but this year it will be something special for if Gimnasia wins on Friday the Lobos might leave River on the third position from bottom in the relegation fight. River plays at the comfort of the Monumental where they have not yet been defeated.

Riquelme was brutally honest when asked about the performance of the team. "We attack badly, we defend badly. Our attacking problem is that we never surprise.. We must control the ball and don't get upset if things don't work out as expected." he said.

Called by Marcelo Bielsa for a friendly match, Gary Medel might be unable to perform for this decisive game. Chilean international speed from the wings is a weapon that Borghi will greatly miss in Nuñez.

River has a versatile squad and their new coach is waiting to see the evolution of his players to see which formation adapts better to their circumstances. Young Manuel Lanzini or Diego Buonanotte might be his main options to build the attack against Boca experienced defense.

Both teams are going through yet another disappointing season and are aware of the importance of this derby for their followers. River has not celebrated a single victory in the last seven games while Boca won 2 of the last four matches.
