Euro 2016 champions Portugal were given a heroic welcome in Lisbon after a historic final against France on Sunday July 10.

Euro 2016 champions Portugal were given a heroic welcome back at their motherland barely hours after winning the historic title. The Seleccao put up a brave fight against the hosts despite the absence of their key player and captain Cristiano Ronaldo who was substituted early in the first half after picking up an injury.

This is the first major title for Fernando Santos' men and a sweet victory that came 12 years after their painful loss to Greece in the finals of the same tournament in Lisbon. In 2004, the Seleccao were the hosts of the tournament and reached the finals as the favorites but were eventually showed by the minnows Greece.

But on Monday morning, thousands of jubilant fans gathered in the streets of Lisbon to welcome back their heroes, who had a rather dull start in the competition after being the first side to draw all their three opening match, including against minnows Iceland.
