How Spain can qualify
The defending champions have already qualified for the knockout stage of the competition thanks to their two-point lead the top of the group. However, their grip at the top will be lost if they lose to Croatia. If that happens, Spain will finish second and qualify, but may also find themselves further down the table if Czech Republic beat Turkey with a strong margin.
How Croatia can qualify
Croatia will be guaranteed of second place finish if they earn a point against Spain. But if they go all out and get a win, they will go top of the table. However, they could lose their second spot on goal difference if they fall to Spain and Czech beat Turkey with a strong margin.
How Czech Republic can qualify
Czech Republic can still book a place in the next stage of the competition if they beat Turkey with a strong margin and Croatia lose to Spain. The Czechs will then take the second spot based on goal difference. However, if both Czech and Croatia are tied on goal difference and points, the fair play rule will be applied. If the fair play system fails to separate them, then their country’s FIFA rankings will be used as a determining factor.
How Turkey can qualify
Turkey’s chance of qualifying for the knockout stage is very slim due to their heavy defeat to Spain on June 17. They need to beat Czech Republic with more than six goals without conceding and hope that Spain will beat Croatia. The furthest Turkey can finish in Group D is third, a result that could earn them a place in the next phase as third-place finishers.
