The Brazilian defender has lift the lid on what his plans are with his contract set to end in a few months.

Thiago Silva has discussed potential contract negotiations at Chelsea as he hints at future plans. The veteran defender's contract expires next summer, and he was coy on what fans of the club should expect as he is yet to be presented the opportunity to pen a new deal.

Silva joined the Blues in August 2020 after his contract expired at Paris Saint-Germain and turned out to be one of the club's best signings in recent years. Having reunited with Thomas Tuchel, the 38-year-old center-back was instrumental in the London club's bid to winning the Champions League in 2021. The Brazilian was subsequently rewarded a contract extension for another year, keeping him at the club until June 2022. In January 2022, he received another offer to extend his stay that the club until June 2023 which he accepted.

Despite Thomas Tuchel departing Chelsea for his poor start to the new season, Thiago Silva as emerged as a favorite for new boss Graham Porter and is constantly featured in the starting line-up. Ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash between Chelsea and AC Milan, the former Rossoneri was quizzed on his future, to which he responded: "I can tell you that what is important is to continue playing at a high level and help the team to achieve the best possible results.

"For sure, there will be a time when we need to talk, it could be before the World Cup or after the World Cup because I need to know whether I will have a new contract with Chelsea for my family arrangements."

"If I don't have a new contract, I will have to decide what to do. For my family it's an important decision. We will see what happens."

Quizzed on the prospect of returning to AC Milan after spending three seasons at San Siro, Silva said: "I have already made my history here at AC Milan, so this isn't the case here anymore at the moment. "If this could've happened, it should've been before I joined Chelsea. But I don't know about the future, who knows what will happen. We will have to think then.

"I am very happy to be at Chelsea, a very big club, great professionals. In the future we will see, maybe [I will come back] as the coach. Who knows.

"I am very happy and excited to be here again after 11 or 12 years. All the nice experiences I've had here came back to my mind and tomorrow I will be even more excited and moved. I will have to be mentally strong and focused not he match because there is going to be a great emotion."
