Mourinho has taken his beef with Rafa Benitez to the next level.

Former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is back in the headlines and this time round, it is not about his much-talked about move to Man United as Louis Van Gaal’s replacement. Instead, the well-travelled Portuguese boss has indirectly aimed the dart at former Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez, who has been relegated with Newcastle, by suggesting that the current boss Zinedine Zidane has the chance to make everyone forget the problems the club experienced under the Spaniard.

The ex-Chelsea boss, who is currently in Mexico coaching a team of legends in a FIFA-organized conference, was speaking to journalists in the Central American nation. He said:

"If Zidane wins the Champions League then everyone will forget about the problems that the club experienced pre-Christmas before the change of coach and the enduring memory will be that of a 11th European Cup win,

“For a team with a bad start that presents a massive opportunity to gloss over the season as a whole.”

Meanwhile, the outspoken manager is also said to be preparing to take over Old Trafford in ‘the next few hours’ according to several media reports. The Man United board has allegedly decided to give the 53-year-old a deal, according to Liverpool legend Phil Thompson

Speaking to Sky Sports, Thompson said:

"If you're asking my honest opinion, then I think the deal is already done,

"There's been a lot in the papers and United have a very close relationship with Jorge Mendes, Mourinho's super agent.

"There's also been the talk that they're still harbouring the idea of bringing back Cristiano Ronaldo, who also has Mendes as his agent, so Mourinho coming in could sway that.

"If Van Gaal did win the FA Cup and finish in the top four, then my option is that he should get the other year, but I think it would be extremely difficult for United to go back on an agreement because Mourinho isn't the sort of guy that waits around."

Man United chairman Ed Woodward conspicuously snubbed Louis Van Gaal in his speech at a conference with investors held today to announce the club’s financial figures. Interestingly, he had mentioned the Dutch tactician in the previous meeting, something that sparked further rumors that the former Bayern Munich boss could be on his way out in the summer.
