Just as Wayne Rooney stunned the world this week by deciding to leave Manchester United, the striker has shocked everyone by signing a new contract with the Red Devils. Is the saga already over?
This would be seen as one of the greatest U-turns in football’s exit rumors. Manchester United have confirmed on their official website that Wayne Rooney had finally put to bed speculations concerning his future at the club.

Manutd.com reported that the 24-year-old player should remain at Old Trafford until June 2015 at least, after “intensive discussions between the Club and the player’s representatives” led to an agreement between the concerned parties.

Coach Alex Ferguson praised the former Everton striker for extending his contract with the Red Devils, stating that “it shows character and belief in what [Manchester United] stand for”. Wayne Rooney also declared in a statement published on Manchester United’s website:

“I’m delighted to sign another deal at [Manchester] United. In the last couple of days, I’ve talked to the manager and the owners, and they’ve convinced me this is where I belong.

“I said on Wednesday that the manager is a genius, and it is his belief and support that have convinced me to stay. I am signing a new deal in the absolute belief that the management, coaching staff, board and owners are totally committed to making sure [Manchester] United maintains its proud winning history – which is the reason why I joined the club in the first place.”

But how will this breaking news resound to fervent Manchester United fans who see Wayne Rooney as a “coward, disrespectful, and unwise person” following the player’s attitude throughout the week? Concerning this issue, the Red Devil attacker concluded:

“I am sure the fans over the last week have felt let down by what they have read and seen. But my position was from concern over the future. The fans have been brilliant with me since I arrived and it’s up to me through my performances to win them over again.”

Although his new deal should make life at Old Trafford normal again, Wayne Rooney is set not to make his way back into Manchester United’s starting lineup this weekend. The former English Premier League champions need to bounce back from their 2-2 draw at home to West Bromwich Albion, but striker Wayne Rooney will not be able to help his side on the pitch as he has been sidelined with an injury for at least three weeks, according to radio station Key103.

Roo was carried out of training on Tuesday after complaining about his ankle. Man United may only welcome their star man into the squad by mid-November. In the meantime, the Red Devils will be away to Stoke City on Sunday.
