Mourinho making bid to sign Ozil

Mourinho plotting to swoop one of Arsenal's most talented players?

May 9, 2016 By Oscar Rojas
With his future still to be decided, reports suggest that the Portuguese tactician wants to re-unite at Old Trafford with his former Real Madrid pupil, Mesut Özil.

After Robin Van Persie's departure from Arsenal to join Manchester United, fans never expected another one of their players to join their bitter rivals. Well, if José Mourinho ends up signing with the Red Devils, it could happen again.

According to reports from TuttoMercatoWeb, the Portuguese tactician would be quite interested in signing the talented German midfielder to boost the team's creative department. Özil was one of Mourinho's key players when he won the 2011-2012 La Liga title, and he would be keen on re-uniting forces with the playmaker at Old Trafford.

Özil kicked off the 2015-2016 season in spectacular form, gathering assists every weekend. Nevertheless, a number of injuries and a drop of form slowed him down before he could break the EPL's assist record in one season.

Mourinho and Özil won three trophies with Los Blancos: 1 Copa del Rey, 1 La Liga tile and 1 Spanish Super Cup).

Recently, the German player stated that he wasn't thinking about leaving the Gunners, but he is yet to pen a new deal with the North London side. His current contract expires by the end of the 2017-2018 season.

On the other hand, Mourinho has always admitted he is a fan of Özil's skills. Back when he joined Chelsea for a second term, he shared some kind words regarding the midfielder, even claiming that he is "one of those players that you buy to complete the puzzle of your team."

All that said, Manchester United and Arsenal fans will have to wait for the final call on this transfer, as both teams prepare for the end of the season. With a game in hand, the Red Devils could edge Arsenal for the EPL's third place if they can win their two remaining matches. On the other hand, Arsenal needs to win against Aston Villa if they want to avoid finishing in fourth place one more time.
