The Red Devils captain beat out the likes of Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale and tennis brothers Andy and Jamie Murray.

The 2016 Sunday Times Rich List for young sportsmen in Britain has been released, and in first spot sits Manchester United superstar Wayne Rooney, as per the Guardian.

The Red Devils skipper tops the list for athletes 30 years of age or below, having amassed a fortune worth £82m, with his reported £300,000-per-week salary – the highest in the Premier League – giving him the edge.

The Three Lions talisman enjoyed a £10m rise in fortune, as he continues his endorsements with Nike and Samsung.

Rooney finished £24m ahead of second-placed Andy and Jamie Murray, with the tennis brothers worth £58m.

In third is Northern Irish golf superstar Rory McIlroy, with a fortune worth £56m, adding a whopping £18m to his tally from last year – the highest increase from any sportsmen on the list.

One will have to look all the way down to fourth to find the next football player on this list, with Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale occupying this spot thanks to his £34m worth.

The world’s most expensive player earns £15.6m per year with Los Blancos, whilst enjoying contracts with Adidas, Sony, and EA.

The 26-year-old Welshman enjoyed an increase of £13m from last year, despite finishing last season trophy-less with the 10-time Champions League winners.

The list was not restricted to only British athletes, with foreign Premier League players making the cut, such as Sergio Agüero (£33m), David Silva (£31m) and Radamel Falcao (£29m).
