To make things worse, one of the two midfielders may even be out for the rest of the season.

With World Cup champions Germany set to locks horns with England this Saturday in a friendly in the current international break, before clashing with Italy next Tuesday, manager Joachim Low sat in front of the press to reveal some unfortunate team news.

As die Mannschaft resume their preparation for the upcoming Euro 2016, the national team boss announced that two of his most influential midfielders have picked up injuries: Mesut Ozil and captain Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The Arsenal man, who played for 74 minutes in the club’s 2-0 win over Everton in the English Premier League, is currently nursing a knock to the ankle which the Germany manager revealed kept him out of Wednesday’s training session, as per DW Sports.

With the Gunners playmaker picking up his knock in Saturday’s Goodison Park victory, Low gave little information as to whether the former Real Madrid man will miss the weekend friendly nor did he give any news on a possible spell on the sidelines for the 27-year-old.

However, Ozil’s knock to the ankle is believed to be exactly that: a mere knock to the ankle. As a result, his absence from training is seen as a precaution.

However, the same cannot be said for his Man United counterpart. Schweinsteiger, who has missed several games this season through injury, hurt his knee in a FA Cup clash with Sheffield United in the beginning of this year.

Unfortunately, the German captain has aggravated the same knee just as he appeared close to full fitness, with fears that the 31-year-old’s season is over after suffering another possible MCL tear.

The Red Devils ace will not feature in both of Germany’s friendlies.
