French politician Manuel Valls is not happy with the court's decision of lifting a ban that prevented Benzema of having any contact with Mathieu Valbuena.

Even if a number of his colleagues, coaches and experts think that Karim Benzema should be called up to play for France in the upcoming Euro, there are some voices that don't feel the same way.

Yesterday, French Minister of Sports Patrick Kanner disagreed with those who thinnk Benzema should play for Les Blues this summer. Today, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls added his voice to those who want the player away from the National Team, during an interview with radio station RMC.

"A great sportsman has to be an example for our youth. I'm not the French Football Federation's president or Didier Deschamps, but I believe that there are no grounds in which Benzema should be included in the team," Valls revealed in the interview.

The politician ellaborated on why he believes Benzema shouldn't be called up for the continental tournament.

"Football is not relevant to the fans only. It's our legacy, every gesture has its relevance," Valls added.

Karim Benzema is under investigation for attempting to blackmail Les Bleus' team-mate Mathieu Valbuena over a sex tape. He's been banned from the French National Team since last year, and the nation's judicial system issued a restraining order against him to prevent any contact with Valbuena, which was overturned last Friday.

But Real Madrid's striker didn't hold back, and he ended up using his Twitter feed to defend himself.

"12 seasons as a professional, 541 games, 0 red cards ad 11 yellow cards!! And some people don't think I can be considered exemplary"

Apparently, Benzema's comment was well received by his supporters, having more than 15,000 retweets and being marked as favorite more than 8,500 times.

Even if Didier Deschamps had considered calling the player up for the upcoming international break, he won't be able to do so due to Benzema's injury, which has kept him sidelined from Real Madrid's most recent games.
