Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has criticised Arsenal’s mental capacity to win the Premier League this season. The Chilean was speaking after The Gunners’ 1-2 loss to Swansea on Wednesday. They are now six points behind league leaders Leicester City, something that risks destroying their dreams of winning the league title for the first time in over ten years.
Speaking to Directv Sports, the former Barcelona man said:
“We lack self-belief, that we can actually be champions,”
“I think we can win the Premier League with the players we have. That said, we lack a certain hunger. We need to step out on to the pitch as if we’re already 1-0 up.
He added:
“I remember a game against Manchester United last year. The lads looked hungry for silverware as we took to the pitch. We crushed them in the first 20 minutes and went 3-0 up. We were hungry and brimming with confidence that day.”
WATCH: Arsene Wenger says title race is not yet over for the Gunners
The 27-year-old has failed to replicate his former form for the Gunners since returning from injury. He has made 20 appearances for the North London side this season, scored six goals, and provided two assists in the Premier League. Arsene Wenger’s men travel to the White Hart Lane on Sunday to face Spurs in a must-win match. A loss to their bitter rivals, who are also title-contenders, will make the title race more complicated for the 2003/04 champions.
