Jürgen Klopp wants to win his first trophy as Liverpool's coach, while Manuel Pellegrini can find a way to end his stint as the Citizens' coach with silverware. Don't miss the Capital One Cup Final!

Liverpool and Manchester City will battle to win the first trophy of 2016 when they meet this Sunday at Wembley Stadium. Jürgen Klopp faces the chance to win his first trophy with the Reds just four months after being unveiled as club manager, while the Citizens wil want to end Manuel Pellegrini's era with the club with some sort of silverware.

Klopp's crew will try to win its ninth League Cup title, while Manchester City battles to win their third trophy in the history of this competition. This game will also give either team the chance to end their respective title droughts, as Liverpool hasn't won any major tournament since 2012, while Man City won't want to go on holidays with two straight seasons without something to celebrate.

Road to the final

Liverpool's road to Wembley wasn't a walk in the park, as the Reds had to endure two excruciating penalty shootouts against Bournemouth and Stoke City in the semi-finals to reach the title game. Their easiest game came during their fifth round match against Southampton, a team they defeated 6-1.

On the other hand, Manchester City didn't break a sweat in their first three games, scoring thirteen goals to pave the way to the semi-finals (4-1 vs Sunderland, 5-1 vs Crystal Palace, 4-1 vs Hull City). Facing Everton was a tough test, but they ended up beating the Toffees with a 4-3 aggregate.

Liverpool

Klopp will not have it easy to put up a consistent squad to face the Sky Blues, as Dejan Lovren is fresh off the team's hospital and Martin Skrtel's fitness is questionable. Adam Lallana and Joe Allen are also set to miss the game against the Citizens, but the attacking trio including Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho could be just what the Reds needed to overcome the opposition.

Man City

After last week's baffling loss against Chelsea in the FA Cup, but with the much needed ego boost provided by their win against Dynamo in the UEFA Champions League, Manuel Pellegrini will have to deal with the absences of Kevin De Bruyne, Fabian Delph and Samir Nasri, while Wilfried Bony and Jesús Navas could be fit to come off the bench.

Head to head

These teams have played 153 games between them, with Liverpool dominating the series with 72 wins and 40 draws. In 2015, both meetings were won by Liverpool, including a 4-1 blowout just weeks after Klopp was unveiled as the Reds' coach.
