It appears that Real Madrid were adamant not to see any of the big name players sold by the club return to La Liga to join rivals Barcelona.
Los Blancos included several clauses in Mesut Ozil’s Arsenal deal back in 2013, as revealed by Football Leaks, which would prevent – possibly even block – the German playmaker from transferring to the Blaugrana, one being first refusal on the World Cup winner should the Gunners choose to cash in on him.
The 10-time Champions League winners’ intentions were no different when they sold Angel Di Maria to Manchester United, with similar measures taken to avoid the Catalan giants moving for the former Galacticos.
Now, Football Leaks have rocked the Spanish giants once more, this time revealing the deal that brought the Argentine ace to Old Trafford.
Stipulated in his Red Devils deal, signed in 2014, should the 20-time English Premier League champions have decided on selling El Fideo back to Spain, they would have to pay Los Blancos a €50m fine, as per Marca.
This fine, though, decreased over the years to €40m by the end of 2016 and €30m by the end of 2017. After 2017, Man United would have been able to sell Di Maria to whomever they pleased, except Barcelona, as there still remained a €30m fine for selling to Real Madrid’s direct rivals.
The 28-year-old eventually left the Theatre of Dreams after only one season – one disastrous season – joining Ligue 1 giants PSG, where he is currently back to his best, for €63m.
