New Zealand vs Honduras: Here’s a match which will actually see two 2010 World Cup underdogs clash for an interesting international friendly match.
Neither New Zealand nor Honduras passed beyond the group stages of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. But, the All Whites certainly gained more positives than Los Catrachos – having not tasted defeat in South Africa.

New Zealand even drew Italy 1-1 in a match where less controversy might have seen the underdogs prevailing over four-time world cup winners, the Azzurri. Generally speaking, the Oceanic nation earned more respect and encouragement from the public considering how much they had improved on their disastrous 2009 Confederations Cup campaign.

On the contrary, Honduras experienced failure throughout their short adventure in South Africa. Their display against Spain was totally unconvincing – if not terrible.

Mathematically, Los Catrachos still stood a chance of reaching the Round of 16 stage despite losing both of their opening 2010 World Cup games. However, the poor and discouraged mindset which they carried along in their last match against Switzerland saw them stumble to an insufficient 0-0 result.

In September this year, Honduras also lost out to Canada on a 2-1 score line only to put an emphasis on the team’s worrying situation. So coming up against New Zealand seems to be a decent option for Los Catrachos to try to reorganize after the departure of former coach Reinaldo Rueda.

On paper, Honduras possess talent which fans would love to see materialize on the field of play. In the meantime, New Zealand’s coach Ricki Herbert is excited ahead of the All Whites’ international friendly match which will take place on Saturday.

“It’s fantastic to have two World Cup opponents here in New Zealand, so close after the World Cup,” Ricki Herbert was quoted as saying.

“It’s a great way of concluding the 2010 campaign, but it is also important to announce the start of a long and hard campaign towards Brazil 2014.”

New Zealand will not have to be taken lightly by Honduras. Each team will certainly experience a lot ahead of the upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifiers. LiveSoccerTV.com shares with you Ricki Herbert’s 23-man squad for the Honduras international friendly match as we await Los Catrachos’ roster:
