The former Reds' boss met with his successor just as the German prepared to take over the team's managerial duties in October.

It's rather unusual to learn that a recently fired coach takes time to share a few details with the one that will take over his spot. As surprising as it may seem, former Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers revealed in an interview with beIN Sports he held a meeting with his successor, German boss Jürgen Klopp.

Rodgers showed he holds no grudge against the team he led for the past three seasons, by making it clear to the German manager he would be around for him if he needed anything.

"I remember when Klopp first got the job and we sat down and we spoke. We sat and had a chat at my house. He’s a good guy. Whatever help he needed going into the job, I was there for that," Rodgers recalled.

One of the main topics discussed in their meeting was Christian Benteke's form. The Belgian has failed to impress at Anfield Road, but both managers agreed he would end up being key for the team's performance this season.

"We felt at that time that Christian was up there in terms of goals to games. The problem now is the patience element. Christian over time will show he’s a top class player," Rodgers added.

Last month, Klopp refused to part ways with the Belgian striker despite his below-average performances.

Finally, the former Reds' boss asked fans to be a little more patient with the down-on-his-luck striker, even risking a comparison between what Benteke is experiencing and how Polish ace Robert Lewandowski.

"We talk about patience. An example is Robert Lewandowski at Bayern Munich and he wouldn’t have got the patience in the Premier League that he did in the Bundesliga and now look at him," the coach-turned-pundit concluded.
