Arsenal’s number one shot-stopper Petr Cech has one big secret behind his success, something that many fans have no idea about.
Cech is often seen shouting at his defenders while offering instructions during matches but the most shocking part is the fact that he speaks five different languages. The former Chelsea goalkeeper has been in great form for the Gunners this season, having inspired them to the top of the Premier League table. He has made crucial saves, most recently on Saturday against Newcastle United, a performance that gave three crucial points to guarantee yet another week at the top of the league.
The 33-year-old speaks English, Spanish, French, German and his native Czech. However, at Arsenal, he mostly communicates with his defenders in Spanish, French and German since the club’s defenders mostly consist of two Spaniards, a German and a Frenchman.
Cech joined Arsenal on June 29, 2015 for a four-year deal.
In an interview with The Mirror, he revealed:
“I speak to the full-backs in Spanish, to Koscielny in French and to Per in English because for him it is the same as me,”
“He organises people in English. Sometimes foreign players wouldn’t know what you say. That’s when you realise it’s easier to say it in their language than hoping they will understand. It can happen.”
Cech is the current record-holder of the most clean sheets in the history of the Premier League, an achievement he secured during his side’s 2-0 victory over Bournemouth. He now has 170 clean sheets to his name.
In 2006, he faced a life-threatening injury against Reading which condemned him to the infamous headgear which he wears while playing.
However, despite the ghastly injury, Cech still insists that he has nothing to worry about while on the pitch other than keeping his opponents at bay.
He added:
“When I play I just play.’’
“I don’t think about it all. If I get injured, I get injured. That’s the way it is. You can’t avoid things like that… During the game I never think about what happens if I make a mistake. I just play. I concentrate on what I have to every second of the game. Then at the end of the game you can sit down and think ‘that was good or that was bad.”
Arsenal face Sunderland for their FA Cup fixture this weekend at the Emirates Stadium in a match where Petr Cech is expected to start between the posts.
