South American World Cup Qualifiers start this month and could really shift teams around. Liberia was the best mover going up 65 spots to 95.

October FIFA Rankings are out and while Argentina is still in the lead, the big surprise is seeing Portugal climbing two spots and find itself in fourth place. Despite losing to France 1-0 early in September, a win against Albania by the end of the month was enough to get Ronaldo's team to the spot they are in.

FIFA Top 10

Argentina stays atop of the rankings after beating Ecuador and finding a last-minute draw against Mexico. Now, the big challenge of the World Cup Qualifiers will begin for them without Lionel Messi. Then, Belgium and Germany exchanged places, giving the Germans the right to be runner-ups in the rankings. Besides finding Portugal in fourth, seeing that Spain went up five spots into number six, coming back to the top-ten.

UEFA Rankings

In Europe, things barely ever cool down when it comes to rankings. Germany continues to be the best team, and they confederation continues to dominate the top 20. 14 of the best 20 teams are from UEFA. Just like Spain, Switzerland also went up five steps (12). Norway was the biggest mover by jumping 35 spots into 34. Netherlands keeps drifting away from the top into 14th place (-2).

It's been all about friendly games in here. Now, October comes with a series of World Cup Qualifying games. Out of the ten teams in here, 70% of them went down, two stayed the same and only Ecuador rose up. The team of Gustavo Quinteros will start October sitting in 31st place.

CONCACAF Rankings

There have been already some World Cup qualifiers in this region and while not many of them involve teams in the upper half of the table, there was quite a bit of movement all across the confederation. After most of the best teams in this region, including Mexico, United States and Costa Rica went down (27, 29, 42), Nicaragua went up 44 spots into 95, their best ranking ever and the first time they break into the top 100.

CAN Rankings

Algeria remains at the top of the region and as the only in the top 10. They are followed by Ivory Coast, both sides did not move over the past month. Ghana went up to spots so they could break into the top 25. Liberia was the best mover in the entire ranking system by advancing 65 spots into 95th place. Cameroon barely stayed in the top 50 since they dropped six spots to the 48th place.

AFC Rankings

Iran continues to dominate the region and impress the world. They are now in 39th place (+1) after beating Guam and India 6-0 and 3-0 at the beginning of this past month. Most of the teams in this region dropped spots as the World Cup qualifiers are already underway, but no team went down as bad as Afghanistan (-20) which is now in 150th place. Australia is fighting to come back by going up three spots (58).

OFC Rankings

In the Oceania region, only three teams went up in the rankings while eight dropped from where they were just a month ago. New Zealand managed to stay at the top with a drop of 12 spots but still in 148. Samoa trails them after having jumped 34 spots into 162. American Samoa and the Cook Islands were the only other two teams to start October in a better spot than where they were in September (164,166).
