Wednesday’s night biggest score line occurred in London as Arsenal whipped Sporting Braga 6-0. In Germany, Bayern Munich left it late while both AC Milan and Real Madrid won in Group G.
Group E: Bayern Munich 2-0 AS Roma; CFR Cluj 2-1 FC Basel

Just as it had been predicted earlier on LiveSoccerTV.com, CFR Cluj beat visitors Basel with the narrowest of margins in Romania. It took two early goals from Rada and Traore for Cluj to get the job done.

Stocker’s 45th minute goal Basel proved to be nothing more than a consolation as the hosts went on to join Bayern Munich at the top of the table.

Hollywood FC played out a good match at the Allianz Arena against AS Roma and it was only in the last 11 minutes of the game that the Germans found the keys to unlock the Giallorossi’s compact defense. Muller and Klose were on target as Bayern Munich rounded up a 2-0 victory over AS Roma on home soil.

This result showed once again that the Italians are yet to find a solution to their poor form this season. They’ll need to better their performance in every area of the pitch if they don’t want to get upset by potential contenders CFR Cluj in terms of group qualification.

Bayern Munich top Group E, CFR Cluj come second, and FC Basel are third with no points whereas AS Roma lay at the bottom of the section with a (-2) goal difference at the end of match-day one.

Group F: Marseille 0-1 Spartak Moscow; Zilina 1-4 Chelsea

When will Marseille learn from their mistakes? On Wednesday night, Spartak Moscow reminded the French side that even the home factor wasn’t enough to help them settle things positively. Azpilicueta’s 82nd minute of the match proved to be the only goal as the Russians ran away from the Stade Vélodrome with maximum points.

The hosts may find their defeat harsh, but they never looked that likely to score as midfielder Lucho Gonzalez and striker Brandao didn’t live up to expectations on the night. Far away in Slovakia, Zilina went down 4-1 against Chelsea.

Michael Essien and Daniel Sturridge scored with Nicolas Anelka clinching a first half brace before Tomas Oravec found a 55th minute consolation goal for Zilina. Chelsea’s impressive run continued and their three-goal margin victory has given them the right to top Group F ahead of match-day two.

Group G: AC Milan 2-0 Auxerre; Real Madrid 2-0 Ajax

It was a good night for AC Milan’s new boy Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The former Barcelona star scored two goals in three minutes to set the Rossoneri on winning ways in the UEFA Champions League. Like Leo Messi, Ibra isn’t the only player to have netted two goals already in the competition.

Gonzalo Higuain also clinched a brace when Real Madrid entertained Ajax at the Santiago Bernabeu. The score line doesn’t tell the whole story, though. Los Blancos should have one by a much greater margin if Cristiano Ronaldo, particularly, wasn’t that wasteful in front of goal. In the end, AC Milan and Real Madrid each managed a win, leaving Auxerre and Ajax behind in Group G.

Group H: Arsenal 6-0 Sporting Braga; Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 Partizan Belgrade

Sporting Braga faced reality at the Emirates Stadium in the most humiliating manner. Celtic and Sevilla fell in the Portuguese team’s trap. However, Arsenal put on a real show to down their counterparts 6-0 on Wednesday night.

The goal feast saw Carlos Vela net twice just like skipper Cesc Fabregas. Arshavin and Chamakh added their name on the score sheet as well. Obviously, this result fired the Gunners on top of Group H with a healthy goal difference advantage over Shakhtar Donetsk who also stole maximum points thanks to a 1-0 victory over Partizan Belgrade.
