Danilo says the competition with Carvajal will only make a stronger defense. He joins Madrid on a six-year contract.

Danilo took his first pictures as a Real Madrid player this Thursday morning as he was presented to the press in a private event at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Brazilian defender has signed a six-year contract with the team from the Spanish capital and ten-time European Champion after playing for Porto from 2011 to 2015.

Ever since he was a kid, Danilo dreamed of playing soccer for Real Madrid. Now that the dream is a reality, he could not hold back his emotions during his presentation at one of the world's most iconic stadium and what could be his home until 2021.

Danilo was welcomed by the president, media and fans

"Today, a dream comes true, which is signing for Real Madrid. It is without doubt one of the happiest days of my life," Danilo said to those in attendance. 

The presentation comes just one day after Dani Carvajal renewed his contract with the team until 2020. Carvajal will be fighting for a spot in the starting XI with Danilo. The 23-year old player believes that the competition between both will only strengthen the right-back position in the team.

"The competition is good for the club. They are two international players (Carvajal and Arbeloa), with great qualities, and the winner here is Real Madrid," Danilo mentioned.

The Brazilian player, who found early success in his career back in his homeland with Santos, has already passed the medical exams required to start training with the team. Los Merengues are about to travel to China and Australia for their preseason games with Danilo included on Rafa Benitez' list.

"I promise to give everything on the pitch in every game. It's the only way I know how to play," Danilo said to his new boss Florentino Perez and to the press gathered at his unveiling event.

The same Bernabeu that tomorrow will give a final farewell to Iker Casillas, today had fans gathered to welcome their newest idol. Danilo spent some time kicking balls from the field to the stands where the fans were. He also juggled the ball and did everything with his new jersey and the number 23 on his back.
