Tottenham Hotspur’s injury-hit Jermain Defoe said he ‘will be OK’ following the knock he picked up while on England duty. But the club can now confirm that the striker will have to miss not one, two, or six weeks of action, but up to twelve weeks on the sidelines instead!

Jermain Defoe InjuredA statement from Tottenham Hotspur declared:

“Following a review by an ankle specialist, Jermain Defoe underwent surgery to repair torn ligaments in his right ankle yesterday [Thursday] evening.

“The striker was forced off with the injury during England’s European Championship qualifier in Switzerland on Tuesday. He [Jermain Defoe] has been ruled out of action for around three months.”

This news comes as a very bad one for Spurs who are yet to welcome back a fully fit Peter Crouch into the squad. Missing Jermain Defoe for up to three months means a lot – especially knowing that Tottenham are competing in four tournaments this season.

The English striker could miss all of his side’s UEFA Champions League group matches which include two very tough games against titleholders Inter Milan. Defoe’s return is scheduled for December at least. By then, he’ll hope that Tottenham Hotspur are still in contention in Europe’s biggest club competition. In the meantime, Coach Harry Redknapp will need to reorganize his squad so as to avoid failures.
