In their last four head-to-head games, Panama has never beaten Ecuador. Panama's current coach guided Ecuador to their first World Cup in 2002.

Less than a week after Panama and Ecuador tied 1-1 in Panamanian territory, both teams go to Estadio Reales Tamarindo in Ecuador to continue their preparation for the Gold Cup and Copa America respectively.

Panama has won three out of their last six games and will have a month off before they have their debut in the Gold Cup against Haiti. It has been an interesting week for manager Hernan Dario Gomez, who took Ecuador to their first World Cup in 2002 when he was their coach. Now, facing them as rivals is something special.

Gomez is now coaching a team that was ever so close to qualifying to the 2014 World Cup, but a last minute goal by the United States was enough to end that dream. Since then, the team has recovered and the results against other CONCACAF teams show they are almost ready to face the Gold Cup.

In their last six games, only the United States beat them by 2-0. The figure of Blas Perez is one that becomes bigger and stronger as the years go by. El Raton had his chance to give his team another win in their most recent game but his shot was stopped miraculously by the goalkeeper.

Panama finished the game one man down for the last 15 minutes of the match. They held on and kept Ecuador away from scoring. The team has only kept two clean sheets in their last six games. The team is ranked 54 in the most recent FIFA World Rankings, falling one spot from where they were last month.

Ecuador looked somewhat better than their opponent on their last game. The team is suffering a crisis of only one victory in their last six games and it came against El Salvador, a team that has also been beaten by Panama. Ecuador, despite their latest results, jumped up three spots in the FIFA Rankings to 31.

They were the first ones to grab the lead on the road and came close to shocking the home crowd until a penalty kick well executed by Roman Torres made things even for the last 25 minutes of the game. This is their last test before the Copa America, where they will face Chile in their first game on June 11.
