Portugal Coach Carlos Queiroz has been banned for up to six months by the Portuguese Anti-Doping Authority following a row which occurred back in May. Now the manager is ready to appeal against this strong verdict.

Portugal Coach Carlos QueirozInitially, Carlos Queiroz had been asked to pay €1,000 for causing trouble at Portugal’s pre-World Cup training camp. But info reaching the media earlier this week confirmed that the former Manchester United assistant manager has been hit with a heavier decree which would see him banned for up to six months. However, Carlos Queiroz is keen to appeal against the six-month ban as he explained in a statement:

“According to some reports, the ADoP has found proof – unlike the disciplinary committee of FPF – of breach and disturbance of anti-doping activity, and has determined a six-month sentence. However, neither I nor my solicitors have received any notification of this, making – if it is confirmed – the media the first to be informed of the decisions, ahead of the accused.

“As for me, what matters isn’t the decision, but the lack of wrongdoing (as was recognized by the FPF). I therefore confirm that I will appeal this decision to the right institutions, namely to the CAS. I will request, based on the statutory rules of CAS, that the decision be suspended until the appeal is heard.”

Carlos Queiroz would have to wait and see how successful his appeal will be. In the meantime, it has been confirmed that the coach will miss Portugal’s opening Euro 2012 qualifying matches against Cyprus and Norway which will take place on September 3 and September 7 respectively. Should Carlos Queiroz lose his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), then he will also be banned from guiding Portugal against Denmark and Iceland as well. These two Euro 2012 qualifying games will take place later October this year.
