Dempsey injured for USMNT friendlies

Dempsey's injury & Klinsmann team selection leaves USMNT in worry

March 25, 2015 By Ali M.
The US national team gear up to clash with Denmark, on Wednesday, but face concerning issues ahead of the friendly.

USMNT will be without their influential captain Clint Dempsey for their friendlies with Denmark and Switzerland, on March 25th and 31st, respectively.

The Seattle Sounders and former Fulham and Tottenham striker suffered an injury to his right hamstring and is set to miss two to three weeks of action, as revealed by the national team.

This unfortunate blow to the US national came occurred during a training session in Zurich, on Tuesday. The 32-year-old has returned to Seattle and has begun his road to recovery.

Not only will Dempsey, a star at last summer’s World Cup, miss his nation’s two friendlies, but he also looks set to miss Seattle Sounders MLS clash with FC Dallas, on Saturday.

Clint Dempsey’s injury comes at a time when coach Jurgen Klinsmann has come under criticism due team management. The German manager, who chose not to replace Dempsey for the game with Denmark, has decided to call only 11 players from their World Cup roster.

Klinsmann also made the shock decision of dropping Geoff Cameron, one of the few American players with English Premier League experience, opting against calling the Stoke City defender for the 23-man list.

Explaining the logic behind this decision, Jurgen stated:

"Geoff is obviously in a good swing with Stoke City and the Premier League. But I had a long conversation with him and explained that just now I would love [to] see other players coming in and proving to us how good they are."
