Having lost two of their last three matches in the Premier League and having been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Barcelona after losing both legs, Manchester City is not in their best form. Their previous loss in the domestic league came to a team which they were expected to beat easily in Burnley. The pressure is piling on Manuel Pellegrini to better his side's results. They are six points behind Chelsea having already played 29 games to the Blues' 28. City must improve as otherwise, even a spot in next season's Champions League might be at stake. Fifth placed Liverpool are only four points behind them.
City will be going to this weekend's clash against thirteenth placed West Bromwich Albion with a full squad. West Brom, however, have many missing players. Keeper Ben Foster has been ruled out of this one. Claudio Yacob and the experienced Christ Brunt are both suspended. Victor Anichebe, Brown Ideye and Callum McManaman are all doubtful. West Brom beat Stoke by a single goal in their previous match. Having beaten Southampton as well recently, they will be confident of pulling out a result against an out of sorts City side.
Pellegrini, despite his side's struggles, is not ready to throw in the towel just yet. This is what the Chilean had to say according to BBC Sport:
"It is not a disaster. Only Chelsea have been better. We will keep on fighting."
"But in England we have very strong teams and all can be champions every year. It is not easy to make the double. Of course, all of us want to win the title every year."
"I don't think it is possible to do it. But it is possible to fight until the end."
"That is the only thing in my mind."
