The Dutch coach referred to his pupil's substitution against Sunderland, when the Argentinian's place on the pitch was taken by Adnan Januzaj

Manchester United's coach Louis Van Gaal tried to explain why one of his top signings during the past summer transfer window has recently been out of shape. With Angel Di Maria's halftime substitution against Sunderland, the Dutch manager tried to clarify some aspects surrounding the Argentinian's arrival to England, and how complicated it has been for him to adapt to a new lifestyle.

"He has to adapt to the culture so we have to give him time to adapt and also to lift his confidence again. That’s also important. He is a human being like me and like you and you can make mistakes. He is a top player so he shall overcome this period, I hope,” Van Gaal stated.

Di Maria's arrival to Old Trafford had fans creating great expectations for the team's future, considering "The Noodle" was key in helping Real Madrid to win their tenth UEFA Champions League title. But recently, Di Maria has struggled with some issues outside the pitch, including a burglary attempt to his home, which left him and his wife in such paranoid state, that the couple refused to return to their home, and opted to stay in a hotel room instead.

Manchester United will visit Newcastle on Wednesday, where the Red Devils will try to defend their fourth position in the Premier League standings.
