The four teams trying to avoid relegation won their respective matches, with Leones Negros upsetting current title holders America at their very own Estadio Azteca

The eighth week of the Liga MX's Clausura tournament delivered quite a few surprises, including victories by Leones Negros and Veracruz, teams that are trying to avoid relegation. Fan favorite Chivas also did their job while hosting Monterrey, but clubs like America, Cruz Azul and Pumas were not able to add some points to their totals. In fact, Pumas are dead last in the standings, with some rumors already surrounding seasoned coach Guillermo Vazquez.

Tijuana cancels Pachuca's two-goal lead

The current league leaders did not have a good start against Pachuca, who took advantage of Tijuana's sloppy defending to go ahead 2-0 with goals by Diego de Buen and Rodolfo Pizarro. After Colombian defender Aquivaldo Mosquera was sent off, Tijuana fought back and managed to turn things around with a brace by Venezuelan veteran and former Borussia Moenchengladbach midfielder Juan Arango. When the game was about to end, Dayro Moreno gave The Dogs their sixth victory of the year, keeping the first place of the tournament.

Leones Negros shock Club America

After consecutive victories over Chiapas and Pumas, Club America felt confident to get three points against up and coming Leones Negros. With the team from Guadalajara currently last in the relegation standings, it seemed to be quite an easy one for Gustavo Matosas' crew. But a lonely goal by Luis Telles sealed the deal for the visitors, while keeping their hopes of maintaining their spot in the Mexican top flight alive.

Chivas win their second game in a row against Antonio Mohamed's Monterrey

Knowing that Veracruz, Puebla and Leones Negros won, Guadalajara desperately needed a victory against Los Rayados . The men led by Jose Manuel de la Torre made their home crowd happy with three headers by Aldo De Nigris, newcomer Raul Lopez and former Real Salt Lake defender Carlos Salcedo. Las Chivas hold the fifth position, and with results like this one, it will take a little patience for them to forget their relegation problems.
