A soccer player in Brazil was fiercely attacked, but not by a player from the opposing team, but by a police dog.

Democrata's striker Joao Paulo was bitten on his arm by the canine. The player had stepped out of bounds and fell too close to he dog that was standing behind one of the goals. Even with the dog being on a leash, the officer in charge could not avoid the vicious attack.

It was until after the game ended that the player was taken to the hospital where he received the anti-rabies vaccine.

The incident happened in the second half of the game. Democrata was playing Tupi on Sunday in the Minas Gerais state regional championship. 

The match was played at the Estadio Jose Mammoud Abbas. Tupi would win the game by 1-0. After four games, Tupi is in sixth place with six points while Democrata is in 12th without any points.
