Reus scored one goal and had one assist vs Mainz. Dortmund is now 14th in the Bundesliga standings.

It started off as a nightmare, but it ended as a heroic tale when Marco Reus helped his hometown team step away from the relegation zone against Mainz. It happened with a 4-2 win by Juergen Klopp’s team on Friday.

Reus, who earlier in the week signed a contract extension with his team until 2019, had quite the night at Signal Iduna Park. After falling behind early in the first half, things changed as soon as the second one began.

Five minutes after the restart, Dortmund tied the game. Another five minutes went by and Marco Reus put his team on the lead after an assist by Kevin Kampl. Moments later, the 25-year-old midfielder delivered a superb curved pass to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for Dortmund to regain control.

Nuri Sahin would score the fourth and last goal for the home team with about 20 minutes to go. But the night belonged to Reus. His abilities had helped his beloved team when they needed him the most. That way, he showed fans how important the yellow and black jersey is for him.

After being jeered away from the field after the first half, fans changed that into cheers by the end of the game. This could work as a motivator for Reus and his team that is now 14th in the league with 22 points. They will face Juventus in the round of 16 of the Champions League.
