The Argentinian manager could be joining Manchester City next summer, since Manuel Pellegrini's future with the team is no longer secure.

With their season apparently ending with no trophies, Manchester City could be set to make a managerial change. If that ends up being the case, current Atletico Madrid Diego Simeone would be the man for the job, according to several English sources.

The club's first contact with Simeone came back in November, when the Citizens were facing elimination from the UEFA Champions League group stage. Simeone dismissed any rumors and eventually Manuel Pellegrini's men gained access to the continental tournament's Round of 16. But after a new slump by the Sky Blues, team execs have made up their mind about signing a new South American boss.

Simeone is currently the front runner to step up and take Manchester City's managerial job, sice the team's other options seem rather unlikely. Apparently, Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti were sought out before, but their future with their teams appears to be out of the question. Their other option, German boss Jürgen Klopp, has seen some of his flare fall after Borussia Dortmund's disappointing season.

Pellegrini's immediate future could be solved soon, since the only chances of adding any more trophies to the team's gallery are short. With their UCL matchup against Barcelona and their seven-point distance from Premier League leaders Chelsea, the Chilean boss will have to pull off a miracle to keep his job with the Citizens.
