AFCON 2015 tournament awards: Ghana bags lots despite heart-rending cup loss

February 9, 2015 By Mutembei Kevin
Despite losing the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations to Ivory Coast on penalties, Ghana players swept AFCON 2015 awards for their sterling performance in Africa's premier international football competition this year.

Despite losing the AFCON 2015 trophy to Ivory Coast and failing to end their 33-year trophy drought in Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, Ghana’s Black Stars completed a clean sweep of the individual player awards at the tournament.

Three teary-eyed Ghana players were sensationally presented with the awards after the dramatic penalty shootout at the Estadio de Bata, although the trophies could not do much to console them for losing the main prize. Here is a breakdown of the awards and their winners:

Pepsi Highest Scorer: Andre Ayew (Ghana)

Andre 'dede' Ayew bagged the prestigious individual award courtesy of his three goals at AFCON 2015. His tally of two assists was also the highest at the tournament. One his goals was this sumptuous match-winning header against South Africa:

Orange Man of the Competition: Christian Atsu (Ghana)

Nissan Goal of the tournament: Christian Atsu (Ghana against Guinea)

Below is the screamer that clinched Chelsea's Atsu the best goal at the 2015 AFCON:

Samsung Fair Player of the tournament: Kwesi Appiah (Ghana)

Fair Play Team of the tournament: DR Congo
