Trinidad and Tobago are languishing at the bottom of CONCACAF’s World Cup qualification table with 5 points from a possible 18. On Saturday, they’ll face a difficult game against Honduras at the Francisco Morazan.

Chances are still open to Trinidad and Tobago

With four matches remaining in the qualifiers, many may see Trinidad and Tobago with no realistic opportunity to reach the finals of the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.

But mathematically, the possibilities are still there for the Soca Warriors to make their second consecutive appearance in the planet’s biggest sport tournament, the World Cup.

Things look far more different in this campaign than they were four years ago when Trinidad and Tobago where playing to attain Germany.

Yet, the end of this year could provide another kind of drama as the Warriors will be fighting to reach the promise land.

Saturday’s encounter away to Honduras might present many obstacles and difficulties but those are all part of Trinidad and Tobago’s fate.

A play-off place at least is still at stake for the Soca Warriors so this weekend’s clash promises to be a thrilling game.

It’s hard to imagine how Trinidad and Tobago will take all three points away from Honduras on Saturday. In fact, this also raises our curiosity to know how this encounter will unfold.

Honduras v Trinidad and Tobago, a little big game for Los Catrachos

Honduras seriously bounced back from their 2-0 defeat to the USA in the Gold Cup with a 4-0 thumping victory over Costa Rica in August. This important win in the World Cup qualifiers cut the gap to only two points off the Costa Ricans who currently lead the table.

Now playing at home against bottom side Trinidad and Tobago should appear as the perfect rehearsal ahead of another crucial encounter, this time away to the Gold Cup champions Mexico.

Honduras will aim to remain in the top three so as to have automatic qualification to the finals of the World Cup competition in South Africa next year.

Therefore, Los Catrachos will need to profit of Trinidad and Tobago’s weaknesses when they host them later this weekend.

For Honduras, playing the Soca Warriors at home may come as an easy task. In reality, this game is big.

Failing to clinch the maximum points against Trinidad and Tobago will ring the bells on Honduras, more because advantage that this fixture presents at  this point in time in the campaign than because of Trinidad and Tobago’s shaky condition as at now.
