TRANSFER: Chelsea making room for Juan Cuadrado to sign shortly

January 29, 2015 By Oscar Casanova Perches
The Blues have agreed on selling Andre Schurrle to free up funds to sign Cuadrado. If the deal is confirmed soon, Cuadrado could play against Manchester City.

Chelsea is making one last push to get Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado on board. The club has agreed to sell German midfielder André Schurrle in order to make room for the Colombian midfielder.

The winter transfer window does not close until Monday night, but the Blues expect to have Cuadrado ready to play against Manchester City on Saturday. The 26-year-old is a priority for Jose Mourinho’s team, which has also expressed interest in Douglas Costa from Shakhtar Donetsk.

In order to make the transfer happen, they hope to sell Schurrle for £30m. Bundesliga teams Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmnund lead the race to get the World Cup champion in their roster.

To help Chelsea sign Cuadrado, Schurrle must be sold immediately

Andre Schurrle may be on his way out of Chelsea soon

There is some speculation that the Cuadrado deal would cost £27m. His current market value is £28.16m according to Transfermarkt.

The 26 year-old made the move to Europe in 2009 from Colombia’s Medellin to Udinese in Italy. Since then, he has played in five different Serie A teams where he has scored 29 goals in 163 games. With his current club, Fiorentina, he has scored 26 of them.

While Schurrle is one of Mourinho’s least favorite players, Cuadrado has the potential to please the eye of the Special One. His speed, assisting ability, athleticism and neat celebration choreographies are things fans can expect from the South American star.

The British press believes that Willian’s role as a starter could be endangered, should Cuadrado join Chelsea, as he may adapt easily to Oscar and Eden Hazard's style of play.
