Like Aston Villa, VfB Stuttgart will play in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, August 19. They'll face Slovan Bratislava in Slovakia in a match that is scheduled to kick off at 14:45 EST.

VfB Stuttgart players congratulate goal scorer CacauVfB Stuttgart defeated Molde 5-4 on aggregate in the 3rd round of qualifiers. They had to stage a comeback to avoid an upset. Stuttgart’s rather poor performance but brave result left Coach Christian Gross unimpressed by his boys although he was still happy with his side’s progress into the play-off.

Christian Gross branded his team's display as "not good", declaring that he expects more from his players who created only few chances, and "never managed to change the rhythm of the game" as they "lacked precision".

Well, the ‘Molde mission’ has been passed. Now, the Germans face another trial in Slovakia. Last season, VfB Stuttgart were thrashed 5-1 on aggregate by Barcelona as they crashed out from the quarter-finals of the 2009/2010 UEFA Champions League. The German club is now ready to start something new, this time in the Europa League.

They’ll have to see out Slovan Bratislava first, though.  Both sides have never met before so the first leg of this fixture should reveal secrets and create lessons for each side ahead of the second leg.

In other news, Stuttgart captured the signature of striker Johan Audel from French side Valenciennes. Liverpool's Philipp Degen also completed his switch from Liverpool to the German side on a season long loan. Meanwhile, it has been reported that Manchester City's Vladimir Weiss is set to join Johan Audel and Philipp Degen at Stuttgart.
