Could the English Premier League be welcoming another goalscoring machine from the Spanish Primera Division?

According to the latest transfer rumors, Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is set for a mega-money English Premier League switch.

The Star (per the Telegraph) claim that Benzema, a long-time Arsenal target, has landed on the radar of Merseyside club Liverpool, who are willing to cough up £40m to sign the French forward.

Brendan Rodgers' side, who currently sit in eighth spot, looks to solve his misfiring striking force by acquiring the services of the Blancos attacker.

Last season, Liverpool were thriving in the attacking department under the leadership of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, nicknamed “SAS” due to their lethal form in front of goal. This season, however, the Reds' new boys are struggling to find the back of the net.

After the sale of Suarez to Barcelona, and with Sturridge having been sidelined with injury throughout this season, summer signings Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Lazar Markovic have failed to impress in the front three, with the trio scoring a combined tally of only three goals.

Benzema, who has registered eight goals in La Liga this term, would definitely be a welcomed arrival at Anfield if Liverpool were to successfully sign the 27-year-old.

As stated in the report, Los Blancos are open to cashing in on the former Lyon striker as they seek to raise funds for a move for Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani.

Despite only joining the Ligue 1 champions in July of 2013, the Uruguayan has had a falling out with his club and manager Laurent Blanc. Cavani now looks to be headed for a Parc des Princes exit, especially after Blanc hinted he could be sold this January.
