CAN 2015: Tunisia's Team Profile

AFCON 2015: Tunisia's Squad list, Qualifying recap, History

January 9, 2015 By Mutembei Kevin
Along with Ivory Coast, Algeria, and Nigeria, Tunisia is one of the top ranked teams in Africa and one of the favorites to walk away with this year's AFCON trophy. As such, fans, citizens, and the world will expect a good run from them in the competition.

Tunisia's #2 rank in FIFA's latest CAF list speaks for itself: they are certainly one of the most formidable teams on the continent. Having cruised to victory in CAN 2004, the Eagles of Carthage will certainly believe that they can walk away with the trophy once more this year. Apart from the 2004 glory, they have participated a further 15 times in the tournament, 2 more than Algeria, Africa's best team currently. On the world stage they are not worse off either, sandwiched between Slovakia and Austria on the FIFA list with a rank of 22.

How Tunisia qualified for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations

Tunisia became the third country to book their place at this year's Africa Cup of Nations after Cape Verde and Algeria. This was courtesy of a goalless draw with Botswana on match day 5 of the qualifying rounds. Though coach George Leekens admitted that it was not their best performance, the single point recorded on the day was certainly a welcome result as it enabled them to win their group with 11 points.
