The fourth-seeded New York Red Bulls advanced from the Eastern Conference knockout round against last season’s MLS Cup champions Sporting Kansas City to upset top-seeded D.C. United in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The Red Bulls are led by MLS regular season leading-scorer, forward Bradley Wright-Phillips (27 goals), and forward Thierry Henry, tied for second in MLS with 14 regular season assists.
The New England Revolution beat the Columbus Crew 4-2 and 3-1, respectively, in the first and second legs of the Eastern Conference Semifinals to advance to the Eastern Conference Championship for the first time since 2007. The Revolution feature U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Jermaine Jones and MVP candidate Lee Nguyen (18 goals, 5 assists in the regular season).
