The German shot-stopper believes he is not given full credit for his actions, since most of the specialized press focuses on goals scored and assists.

German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer spoke during an interview about his chances to win the Ballon D'Or, even though his position on the pitch does not get international recognition. The 28-year old World Champion with Germany believes he can win the award, but some other players get more media attention for their antics off the pitch.

"I'm simply a goalkeeper, not a spokesman for a brand. I'm not the kind of guy who poses in his underpants, and I prefer to have people talking about me because of how I perform inside the pitch. I don't like the red carpet, I prefer the green turf. I feel better on the pitch trying to be the best I can be," Neuer said.

Neuer, who completed his second World Cup for Germany as a starter, gave himself some credit for his team's success, even though the press focuses more on goals scored and assists.

"After the games, the main things they show are the goals, the assists. Spectators don't tend to remember that the keeper stopped difficult balls by taking a risk, that's what I have to get over if I want to win the award," the keeper added.

The keeper will be absent from Germany's last international match this year against Spain after coming down with an injury to one of his knees.
