The Bayern Munich attacker admitted to being angry after the final whistle, and had some harsh words for his national side after the disappointing loss

Bayern Munich ace Arjen Robben blasted the Netherlands national team's performance against Iceland on Monday, calling it unworthy after falling to a shock 2-0 loss on Monday.

The 30-year-old admitted to being angry after the final whistle, claiming the team made things difficult for themselves, as a Gylfi Sigurdsson brace saw the Oranje return from the Laugardalsvöllur empty handed.

"This was not worthy of Oranje," Robben said after the game.

"But we did it all ourselves. We need to look at ourselves. We made things unnecessarily hard for ourselves.

"Now I have to be careful what I say because I'm so angry. We shouldn't point fingers at each other, but what happened tonight shouldn't at this level.

"If you play like this, you don't win games. It's just not going well. Besides the fact that we gave away two goals, we're also not where we want to be football-wise.

"In the first half, we created three chances we should have scored."

After their heroics at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, in which they finished in third place, the Oranje have failed to get their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign on track after succumbing to a second consecutive defeat, following their 2-1 loss t Czech Republic back in September.

"We must stop comparing. We have to stop looking back. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror. We've started over again.

"We must not think we are good because we're not good. We can be good, but we're not good.

"We're still not among the top countries in the world and we must fight hard for good results. It wasn't good enough. Euro 2016 is two years away and we want to be there. But a lot must happen."

Pressure continues to pile up on Guus Hiddink, who succeeded current Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal. But with many blaming Hiddink for the loss, team captain Robin Van Persie was quick to defend the 67-year-old coach.

"That's not fair to Guus Hiddink and his staff," the former Arsenal star reiterated.

"He's a fantastic coach. We worked hard to get here in as good shape as possible. Iceland were looking for our mistakes.

"We made too many errors in possession and weren't strong enough in duels."
