According to the latest transfer rumors, Wenger turned down a deal which could have paved the way for Fabregas' return to Arsenal

Weeks after the 2014 summer transfer window shut close, rumors emerged that German heavyweights Bayern Munich were keen on signing Arsenal star Mesut Ozil in the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old former Real Madrid star, signed by the Gunners back in 2013 for a club record of £42.4m, has not taken life at the English Premier League well, with many fans calling for the World Cup winner to be benched.

And now, according to Spanish publication El Confidencial, the Bundesliga champions made attempts to bring the ex-Los Blancos ace to the Allianz Arena last summer, but were rejected by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

As stated in the report (per the Metro), die Roten manager Pep Guardiola has long been an admirer of Ozil even prior to his Santiago Bernabeu days, and even tried to lure him to Camp Nou before being signed by Jose Mourinho in 2010.

Despite his poor form, the Spanish manager has not let down on wanting wanting to work with Ozil, but came short of luring him to his home country, as the FA Cup holders' long-serving manager rejected the Bavarians' bid, coming short of the fee it took to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

A move to the 2013 Champions League winner would have paved the way for Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas' return to Arsenal, but Wenger decided on keeping faith in Ozil, thus leading to the 27-year-old former Barcelona ace's Chelsea switch, where he has now bagged a whopping seven assists.
